About Sot
Hey, we're Shades of Teal, a do it yourself band from Timmins, Ontario, Canada. We play a variety of genres of music, but are mostly classified as an alt-rock or punk band! We've been compared to The Offspring and Greenday the most, but aren't huge fans of labels when it comes to our music. "I'm a peacock captain, you gotta let me fly!!".
Shades of Teal was established in 2018 by founding members, front man, Aaron Sullivan and bassist, Steven Pollak, then was later joined by drummer Alex McGarry after a 2nd EP (Birthdays and Barmitzvahs) performance by interim drummer Eric Martineau. The band writes, records and mixes all their own music in a home studio which was also constructed by members of the band. "The do it yourselfers of our generation."- Friends of the Band.
Shades of Teal draws inspiration from almost all genres of music and allows almost total freedom for each member when it comes to writing music, which culminates into a very unique sounding style with high energy.
The boys are constantly working on projects, from singles to studio sessions and concerts, with the possibility of anything in between! They are always looking to do collabs or work with friends on their projects. Keep an eye to all of Shades of Teal's social media for exclusives and new content.
Thanks to all our friends, family, and fans in general for all the continued support!!
"We Love You All!!" -Shades of Teal to anyone who cares.
Step forward with Sully the Front Man
Sully
A look into the past
Sully has been a huge music fan his whole life, from his early days playing hockey and using it to get pumped up, to him starting to play drums in early highschool for performance class, to him being the front man of SoT. His favorite style being more in the ska, punk, and metal genres, this guy loves to funkin mosh!!
He is the highest intensity stoner you will ever meet, focused, yet ADD... Yin and Yang... He enjoys skateboarding, snowboarding, hockey, video games and professionally drinking beers in his spare time. We actually don't have a firm grasp on how many teeth he's lost, so you'll have to ask him yourself. *Disclaimer* Don't get to close, he does bite.
His goals with the band are simple, have fun, get drunk with people, and have some more fun! But for real, he doesn't care where Shades of Teal ends up, as long as all his friends are with him for the ride!!
Drop it Low with Pollak the Bassist
The Hammer
*PG13* There are swears in this
Pollak’s musical interest stems from way back, showing extreme interest in bands such as Guns and Roses, Linkin Park and System of a Down at the age of 12. His parents decided to buy him his first bass guitar and after rocking the f*ck out to a few cover songs he grew a passion for the instrument. Today, Pollak’s influences have expanded to many different bands in all types of genres, however, two bass players he finds most influential are, Flea of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Geddy Lee of Rush.
In his spare time he likes to drink beer, play sports and travel. When friends get together all you have to do is ask him twice and he’ll cave, even if he works the next day. Never wanting to miss a second of every day, he’s known for falling asleep at the party or even in public. He’s fine... Just don’t try to take his beer away or you’ll regret it. *You've been warned*
For Pollak, Shades Of Teal has been the experience of a lifetime, between playing live, recording music and filming music videos. There is no such thing as time wasted when you’re making music. He strives to keep the beat, stay on time, lock in with his drummer and above all... ROCK THE F@CK OUT!
Behind the kit with McGarry
Alex Barker
He Plays drums..... very well
McGarry as a kit kicker stemming from a punk rock, and metal background. He has been playing since he was 10 years young. Growing up some of his biggest musical influences were Rage Against the Machine, Tool, System of a Down and bands of that nature. He finds it cathartic to make music while releasing mad energy moving all limbs at once. Self described as a feel drummer, he has been making progress playing with Shades of Teal challenging himself in the studio along with a click and creativity in the song writing process.
McGarry came to be the third piece of SOT through Sully. They both worked together for years and it fell into place. He has an absolute blast playing with the boys and says that it is rare to come by other musicians who encourage such musical freedom. Over the years as SOT continues to write and rock, he says his chops, feel and control have been improving dramatically.
Overall, he is an upbeat spirited person looking to bring energy to the group. He feels like what SOT has is special, cohesive and inclusive. Says that it is one of the best musical experiences he's been apart of and looks forward to slapping the skins and jamming awesome tunes with the boys.
